Abu Dhabi Daytrip From Dubai
I took a solo trip to Dubai in late October 2025. However, my time was limited, so I wanted a quick, affordable trip to Abu Dhabi.

In this blog I tell you about the tour I did through Viator that allowed me to make the trip in one day and the best part is, the tour offers hotel pick up and drop off. Check out the tour link below, the key locations, and my experience.
Viator Tour: Dubai to Abu Dhabi: Grand Mosque, Royal Palace & Etihad Tower
Tour Duration: 9-10 hours
The tour visits the following sites in Abu Dhabi:
1. Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque
2. Etihad Towers
3. Qasr Al Watan Palace (Presidential Palace)
4. Louvre Abu Dhabi
Know Before the Tour:
You will walk and stand a lot! Take your most comfortable walking shoes and you can thank me later. Also, wear good socks so your feet aren’t sweaty all day. Amazon has some great options, including these Hylaea No Show Running Athletic Anti-Blister Wicking Coolmax Socks, Seamless Anti-odor. *As an Amazon Associate, I earn from qualifying purchases.*
Dress comfortably. The tour operator offers clean Abayas for women to visit the mosque (see section Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque for more details about dress code). But it gets hot fast, so wear light breathable clothing (think linen, cotton, sweat-wick clothing).
It will be a long day. The tour starts early and ends in the evening. The drive to/from Dubai is 1.5 hours each way and can vary during rush hour on a weekday. Plan accordingly, eat a big breakfast and pack a snack to avoid getting hangry.
The tour does not include lunch. You will have an hour to eat lunch after visiting the mosque. There will be plenty of options and the tour operator will help guide you.
The tour offers cold water for the entire trip. So, you don’t have to carry a heavy backpack with water, unless you want to!
Below I breakdown each location based on my experience.
Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque
This is one of the most beautiful monuments I have ever seen. Truly. As the tour bus drove up to the mosque it reminded me of Jasmin’s palace in Aladdin. Take it all in because it’s gorgeous and pictures don’t do it any justice. Image below is my view of the mosque as the tour bus drove up to it.
I want to set expectations for you. It will take some time to enter the mosque because of how the visitor entry is set up. Please be patient because I promise it is worth it. The journey begins when you enter through a glass dome.

You will take an escalator down to a mall, yes, you read that right, there is a mall below the mosque. This mall is huge with several restaurants for lunch after the mosque tour and plenty of souvenir shops. The tour operator will provide Abayas for women, which are clean and must be returned after the mosque tour. Once everyone is ready, you will proceed to a security checkpoint (very similar to airport security) then proceed to another escalator up to the Grand Mosque. See Key Tips below for more information.
Key Tips
The mosque has a strict dress code. You may not be allowed entry if you do not follow it. The tour will provide Abayas for women to wear over clothing, however, men should come prepared. Women must cover their heads (the Abaya has a cover), while men must wear clothing that covers elbows and knees. Below are images of the dress code from the mosque’s website: https://www.szgmc.gov.ae/en/worshippers/en-v-mosque-manners-details

No public display of affection. Our tour guide also mentioned we could not make any hand gestures while taking pictures (i.e., peace sign, hearts, etc.). See below for more details:

Do NOT sit on the blocks by the water fountains. These are not for sitting, but there are benches nearby. Security will scold you if you sit on the blocks.
Be mindful of the restricted areas. There are restricted areas roped off. The rope is white and can blend with the building, so be careful.
Etihad Towers
These towers give you a bird’s-eye view of Abu Dhabi with floor-to-ceiling windows that provide a 360-degree experience.

Be sure to take in the impressive size of the Presidential Palace and the Emirates Palace as well as the gorgeous beaches.

Qasr Al Watan Palace (Presidential Palace)
Next stop is the Presidential Palace. Prepare to feel like a tiny ant in a giant’s home. While this is not a residential palace (no one lives there), it is the political center for the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
NOTE:
This palace also has a dress code and etiquette to follow; however, it is more laxed than the mosque. I do still recommend planning ahead to dress accordingly.
Restrooms are VERY nice. Think Buc-ee’s but for royalty.

Louvre Abu Dhabi
The Louvre was the last stop for this tour. Please know this tour does NOT include entry to the Louvre, it is only a quick stop to walk around the outside, see the external architecture, and take pictures. The architecture is unique, but I would expect nothing less for a building that carries the brand name “Louvre”.
At the end of this tour, I was tired and fell asleep on the drive back from Abu Dhabi to Dubai. I think most people fell asleep after a full day excursion because the bus was a quiet drive back.
